Philip Tutt secures Silver at CIPR Wessex Pride Awards 08

A volunteer publicity team drawn from the churches of Winchester has won recognition from PR’s professional association.

Efforts to promote The Winchester Passion won the silver award in the ‘Not for Profit’ category of the Wessex Regional PRIDE awards, organised and judged by the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR).  The dramatic re-enactment of Christ’s Passion drew up to 12,000 onto the streets of Winchester last Good Friday.

Philip Tutt, owner of 360° Integrated Marketing, was a spokesperson for the Passion. “While we relied more than a little on the power of prayer, this award also reflects the impact of directed enthusiasm. The publicity team numbered no more than a dozen and the success was really achieved by a whole community working together. Around 800 people were involved in the Passion in some way; each of these was an ambassador who carried the central message of the story wherever they went.  This award is a thank you for all their commitment.”

The story of The Winchester Passion is told in a new book, available from churches and bookshops around the city. The churches are following the success of the Passion by inviting the inspirational Christian speaker J John to bring his ‘Just 10’ presentation to the city next year, launching with a carol service in Winchester Cathedral on Wednesday 3rd December.
